As a Black woman, I wholeheartedly support and celebrate Black voices—especially those of Black women. I would be remiss if I didn’t spotlight the books by black women that resonate with me, written by women who represent and reflect my experiences.
Although I’ve been an avid reader for years, it wasn’t until 2018 that I discovered contemporary black romance novels, and I have been captivated ever since. At the same time, I’m drawn to books that deeply explore the Black woman’s experience delving more into the likes of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Toni Morrison, who write so eloquently about what it means to exist at the intersection of Blackness and womanhood. I believe in sharing the full spectrum of Black women’s stories—celebrating our love, friendships, and joy just as much as our struggles.
Every narrative is valuable, whether it’s a tender exploration of relationships or a powerful tale of resilience. These recommendations are a variety of genres, offering everything from light, beautifully written romances to deeply moving, heart-wrenching stories that all centre black women. These books delve into themes of identity, race, love, friendship, and the complexities of life through the perspectives of Black women from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Some explore race, cultural identity, and generational trauma, while others follow the everyday experiences of Black women as they navigate love, illness, morally complex choices, and the simple act of living.

The only book on this list I haven’t read yet is Homegoing, but I’ve heard incredible things about it. It’s been on my TBR for a while, and since I know it will be an emotionally heavy read, I want to be in the right headspace before diving in. I think it would be perfect for an in-depth review, so I’ll be sure to update you all when I finally pick it up!
I hope you all find something intriguing among these books and decide to explore a few! I’ve intentionally left out my personal opinions and ratings so you can go in completely blind. However, if there’s a book you’d like me to review in detail, let me know in the comments—I’d be happy to share my thoughts! You can also find more of my reviews here.
As always, thank you for being on this journey with me!

A Mo-tivated Reader ☺️
