TBR

Welcome back to my TBR Update!

As I didn’t get through as many books this month, my TBR also took a hit, and I only managed to read one book from July’s post. However, that won’t stop me, and so I’m still adding to the list because I can!

My TBR is much longer, and if you’d like to see the full list, follow me on Goodreads and Fable.

Usually, I provide an overview of what I’ve read from my last two TBR posts and what remains, but I only read one item from my TBR in July: Funny Story 🤣. So here’s a carousel of the books left on my TBR since my first post in April. I promise to do better next month (don’t hold me to this)

Remaining Books

I’m following a similar format as last month and providing books from some of my favourite genres: Black Romance Fiction, thrillers, and my new rediscovery Romantic Fantasy!

3 New Books!

Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby

Genre: Thriller

A gritty, emotional thriller about two ex-con fathers – one Black, one white – who team up to seek justice for their murdered sons, who were in a relationship. Despite their pasts and prejudices, Ike and Buddy Lee must navigate a dangerous underworld of crime, corruption, and grief to uncover the truth. It’s a violent but heartfelt story of redemption, fatherhood, and breaking cycles.

I read All Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby sometime last year; it was the first mystery thriller I ever picked up, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It took a little while to get into and tackled some heavy, intense themes, but it was such a powerful read. I’ve heard even better things about Razorblade Tears; it’s got higher ratings, too, so I plan to dive into that one soon.

The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig

Genre: Romantic Fantasy

In the mist-shrouded kingdom of Traum, Six, one of six orphaned girls raised as dream-divining priestesses, serves her final days at Aisling Cathedral. When a prophecy comes, Six strikes an uneasy deal with Rory, a cynical, sharp-tongued man who doesn’t believe in the gods. But when her fellow Diviners start vanishing, Six and Rory flee the cathedral, uncovering dark truths about the faith that raised her, the powers she serves, and the lies hidden beneath centuries of ritual.

Now, you all know how I feel about romantic fantasy; it’s not always my go-to. But I’m always open to trying something new, and The Knight and the Moth caught my eye. I’ve heard Rachel Gillig is an absolute beast with her pen when it comes to fantasy. I’m a little nervous, though, it’s the first book in a new series, so if it ends on a cliff-hanger and I end up loving it? I’ll be so stressed waiting for the next one. However, I am committed, and I hope I like it.

Truth or Dare by Danielle Allen

Genre: Black Romance

This is a steamy contemporary romance centred around a group of college friends reuniting years later for a cabin getaway. During a nostalgic game of Truth or Dare, old feelings resurface between Simone and Kingston, leading to a sizzling second-chance romance. It blends humour, heat, and heartfelt moments with a focus on Black love and friendship.

I love me some Danielle Allen! She rarely misses. Her stories are always emotionally rich and deeply resonant. I came across Truth or Dare on someone else’s blog, and just from the premise alone, I knew I was in for a good time. I’m firmly a second-chance romance girl now. Nothing beats that “it’s always been you” energy. Inject it straight into my veins.

If you have read any of these books, do let me know in the comments, and do feel free to read them with me (if I do). I post regular updates on what I’m reading on Fable so we can read and enjoy together!

I’m not currently reading any books. I am supposed to start reading Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine for my book club meet next week, so that’s on my agenda; however, I think I’m going to read Truth or Dare first because I am so excited for it.

I hope you give some of these books a go! Thank you, as always, for joining me on this journey. See you soon!
