The Worst Books I read this year in order.
Now, would it really be a proper wrap-up if I didn’t include the worst books I read this year😁? As it’s Boxing Day, I thought this post could have a festive feel! So this is Santa’s Naughty Book List.
This list was by far the easiest to put together, as it’s arranged directly according to my Fable ratings — and I specify Fable because it lets you use decimal stars, meaning plenty of .5s, .25s, and .75s found their way in. It’s ordered from highest rated to lowest, with a short note on how each one made me feel. As I mentioned, I read very widely, which means my curiosity sometimes gets the better of me and I end up falling into certain book traps… usually the sort that come from self-published titles desperately in need of an editor.
There are also a few popular and semi-popular books here that I simply couldn’t get behind. Some might be shocking to some people, but definitely not to others. But the majority are Kindle Unlimited traps — the ones that sound intriguing, pull you in with a good premise, and then utterly fail to deliver. I wouldn’t even class some of them as Wattpad level, because the Wattpad girlies were offering far more quality than this.

9.

Rome: The Ballerina by Grey Huffington
This one breaks my heart, but it just wasn’t good. Grey, I’m disappointed.
8.

Inevitably Love by Love Belvin
Book 2 in a duology…Waited 6 months to be sourly disappointed.
7.

Little Rot by Akwaeke Emezi
We already know how I feel about this one – read review here.
6.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi
Boring and slow
I might not have given this one a proper chance, but alas.
5.

Bullet by Wynta Time
Came back for Round 2 with Miss Wynta…I knew I hated this author, so why the hell I listened to that recommendation I’ll never know.
4.

When I Think of You by Myah Ariel
BORING BORING BORING
Took me 9 months to read……Need I say more? It’s a shame, really, because in terms of writing quality this really shouldn’t be on here.
3.

A Love Bound by the Sun by Wynta Time
I don’t know where I found this or why the hell I read it.
2.

The Text by Juli Hill
Are you just learning how to write stories?
1.

The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose
A 6 pack of ass
You can’t write the story in 1st person and make the protagonist the murderer – I’m in her head, she can’t hide her thoughts from herself!!
So there you have it: Santa’s naughty list of books. The ones that made me want to pull my hair out. The ones that disappointed me because I had such high hopes, and the ones I never should have given a chance in the first place.
I suppose this also highlights just how wide-ranging my reading has been this year. I don’t think I’ve actually read many truly bad books — more often, they were average, or frustrating for very specific reasons. Maybe I should do more negative reviews. Some books simply aren’t worth the time based on what I expected from them, but my Onyx Storm review was one of my favourites this year precisely because I disliked it so much and had so much to say. Sometimes, hateration really is easier than adoration.
Follow me on Goodreads and Fable to see my average reads. Many, many, many 3-star reads this year.
Thanks for Reading!
Signed,
