Great Idea…Poor Execution – An Onyx Storm Review

It took me 7 months to finish reading Onyx Storm. What started as an exciting foray into a new and unique universe, transformed into an exhausting slug through one of the most frustrating books I’ve read this year. While I love the world Rebecca Yarros has created she has left very much to be desired. I unpack everything from disjointed plot holes to lack of character development, in this very very long review.

Lights Out

This is Hilarious! – A Lights Out Review

I decided to give Lights Out by Navessa Allen, the BookTok sensation a read! I was thoroughly entertained giddy and blushing the whole way through. A fun book with a morally ambiguous storyline Aly and Josh gave us so many laughs I couldn’t put it down. Despite my critiques I had a great time with this book and I dive into why in this post!

Worth the Hype? – The Housemaid Review

A fast-paced psychological thriller, The Housemaid lures you in with its deceptively simple premise and captivates you with its crazy storyline. While some tropes feel familiar, Freida McFadden’s execution, sharp, sinister, and satisfyingly unhinged, makes this a ride that’s hard to put down. However, is it worth the hype? Read the review and find out.

Painfully Brilliant – A Yellowface Review.

Painfully Brilliant – A Yellowface Review.

Yellowface is one of those books that makes you cringe, laugh, and spiral, often all in the same chapter. What I thought would be a straightforward narrative quickly unraveled into sharp satire, complete with an unhinged and wildly unreliable narrator. Kuang doesn’t just tell a story, she holds up a mirror to the publishing industry, to whiteness, to us. It’s messy, uncomfortable, and deeply self-aware in the best way possible.
